There are two houses in the legislative branch. The first one is the House of Representatives and the second one is the Senate. Such split was brought about by the Great Compromise of 1787 that attempted to resolve issues of representation for states with large population vs. those states having smaller ones. In the House of Representatives which tend to be the lower chamber of the US congress, members here are elected every two years. In this case the number of representatives in each state is however determined by the population level but each state is guaranteed to have at least one representative regardless of its population size. There is election every six years of the members on the Senate. There being two senators in each state means that such will never change based on state population.
Another one is lawmaking process. There tend to be a legal process of drafting new laws and begins when a member of Congress introduces a bill. A bill is defined as a law that is proposed either by someone in the House of Representatives or by the Senate. The bill after introduction moves to a committee for consideration comprising of experts on specific subjects. Approving or rejecting the bill are the options here. The law goes on the next process after approval. There is debating and voting of the approved bills now! It’s after the bill passes both the House and the Senate that it goes to the President now! The bill is either vetoed or signed.
Next is Filibuster. This tends to be a legislative tactic used by lawmakers to delay or prevent drafting new laws. Senators delay the voting of a bill by speaking about it for more time. Senate rules says that any Senators can talk about a bill for as long as they want thereby making it more functional. Although there are considerable debates about reforming or removing filibuster it’s unlikely that it will change in the future.
Conference Committees. The differences between the House as well as the Senate are resolved by the conference committee. Having a different version of a bill being passed by the two houses causes differences which this company comes to solve. Significant changes or new provisions are made in this case.
